THE ASCENDANT  IN ASTROLOGY

The Ascendant (rising sign) is the point in the Zodiac that rises at the eastern horizon at the moment of birth. The Etymological horoscope is a synonym for the Ascendant. However, nowadays they hold different meanings. During its apparent movement on a celestial sphere, the Sun touches the twelve signs of the Zodiac. The position of the Sun at the time of birth is assumed as the point or the top of the first field. Thus, the horoscope signs that the point in question assumes (three at the most) provide their own natural Ascendant. For example, the Aries person, whose top of the first field is at 20° of Scorpio, will be “Aries ascendant Scorpio-Sagittarius”. However, if a major planet assembly is in Sagittarius this sign will be before the bi-nominal of the Ascendant Scorpio Capricorn.

The planet which provides the nature of the Ascendant is the one closest to the top, or, if the planet is just passing there, then it is the planet that holds the domicile in the sign that covers the first field. For example, if the Moon is at 24°, the Venus at 26° of the Scorpio, the Moon is the ruler of the Ascendant, but he cedes the passage to Mars, which does not have a domicile in Scorpio if it is there instead of Venus. The knowledge of the rising sun is the most important item in the interpretation of the horoscope. It primarily discovers the person’s character, and it is possible to provide the first psychological portrait of the person, even without knowing the sign itself, while the other way around is not possible. That is why is reading past horoscopes inconsistent.
