Feng shui is the ancient Chinese art of arranging space and living in harmony with the environment in which we live, in such a way as to attract the positive life force Chi into our homes and our lives to ensure happiness for the whole family and our descendants. In its essence, it is based on the observation of heavenly and earthly forces, i.e. time and space, and the interaction of the energy of these two factors. And its purpose is to balance them in order to achieve harmony and happiness.
The term itself literally translated means “Water Wind”, which is an abbreviation for a passage from the book Zangshu, written by Guo Pu of the Jin Dynasty, which reads:
“Chi flies in the wind and dissipates, and lingers when it encounters water.”
In the figurative sense, this sentence indicates the mobility of energy and the means by which it travels, i.e. which affect it, namely wind and water.
Traditional feng shui is based on the Chinese compass, Luo Pan, which very precisely measures the sides of the world and provides numerous data needed to analyze a space. But feng shui can also be practiced with the help of a modern Western compass, but in that case you need to know the theory well in order to correctly interpret the meaning of the compass readings.
